Devon Kidd is a Midwestern-born, Southern-inspired screenwriter and playwright working across television, theatre, and film. His writing blends surrealism and realism to explore fantasy, science fiction, comedy, and drama through a distinctly Black narrative lens. across mediums, his work centers heightened worlds, moral tension, and character-driven storytelling that interrogates power, belief systems, and social inheritance, an approach well-suited to long-form, episodic narrative.
Devon earned his B.A. in English Summa Cum Laude from Morehouse College in 2016 as the Top English Major of his graduating class, and later received his M.F.A. in Playwriting from Columbia University, where he studied under Lynn Nottage (Sweat, Ruined) and David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly, Soft Power). His work has been recognized by Roundabout Theatre Company, with Not Even God selected as a Finalist for the Columbia@Roundabout Reading Series and In the Jungle named a Winner the following year.
In addition to his creative work, Devon was a Roundabout Theatre Archival Research Fellow, publishing the long-form essay “Children of Othello: Examining the White-Written Black Character and White-Centered Black Story, As a Black Writer.” He has also worked as a paid script editor and writer on a German television series that was ultimately halted due to the Writers’ Strikes.
Devon is deeply committed to building a sustainable career in television, theatre, and film and is currently focused on developing original projects across each medium.
